The following information will serve as a guide to our practices, but please contact us if there is anything else you would like to know. All our staff are trained to help you.
Our Practice Motto is “Valuing Care, Caring About Value” and you will see this under our paw logo. This means we strive and invest to provide the best primary care for your pet, and charge fees that fairly represent the work we do to achieve this, and no more!
What if you need us Out-of-Hours?
We offer our own LOW COST Night Time and Weekend Emergency Service, serving our existing clients, any new clients who wish to register, and owners registered with other vets during the day time. Simply call 0141 427 0848 out of normal hours - or if you are already a Champion Vets client then you can call your local Champion Vets surgery.
Please note that all our consultations with a vet or nurse are by appointment only and during certain consulting times. You will be advised of these when you call to book an appointment. However, if your pet is urgently ill, of course we will prioritize seeing him or her. But please try to call before you come down, so that we can have a vet ready to see you. The appropriate consultation charge will be quoted on booking but you will need to make allowance in addition for any medicines that the vet prescribes. Our nurse appointments are often free of charge.

- Vet-controlled sedation of your pet if required in anxious or aggressive animals

Payment of Fees – sadly there is no NHS for our pets! But there is insurance…
In order to cover the very considerable costs of providing our modern service, we require you to pay your fees at the time of the treatment. All fees, diets and drug charges are subject to VAT at the current rate. Fee levels are determined by the time spent on a case and according to the drugs, materials, consumables and diets used.A detailed printed estimate will be given to you for all expensive procedures. We do not routinely issue an estimate for inexpensive or simple procedures but are more than happy to provide one straight away if you require – so please ask if you have not received one! Please remember that this is an estimate, not a quotation. Due to the complicated nature of biological creatures costs may vary from the initial quote, depending on the results of treatment or diagnostic tests. You will be advised of any large changes to the likely costs before the procedures are undertaken, except in a dire emergency if life-saving procedures need to be undertaken immediately. We accept cash, credit and debit cards as forms of payment. In very exceptional circumstances we are able to offer credit to ensure animal welfare. Please ask for details.
Aged Debt Administration Fees
We are a payment at the time business and credit will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances, such as direct insurance claims. If you owe us money, we will take reasonable steps by telephone and in writing, to ask you to pay your bill. Should this not be forthcoming, we reserve the right to add a £40.00 administration fee to your account, and to forward your details to our Debt Collection Agency. In the uncommon event that legal action is required to recover unpaid fees, we reserve the right to add court fees and other legal costs that we may incur to your account for recovery. These fees may typically be £200-300.
Save 15% on Your Vet Bills With Our Popular VALUVET SCHEME:
Many of our customers have joined our Valuvet Practice Membership Scheme and save 15% on fees, medicines, pet foods and accessories at every visit! A monthly payment of between £8 and £14 (depending on the size of your dog, cat or rabbit), ensures your vaccination, flea and worming costs are spread painlessly across the year and entitles you to a 15% discount when other visits are necessary. For an additional small fee per month, underwritten accident insurance can be added for up to £5,000 of veterinary fees.
Pet Insurance – Can you afford not to have it?
Championvet.com strongly recommends you subscribe to pet insurance, since costs can rise very quickly during medical or accidental emergencies. As an example, referral of your beloved pet with a slipped disc can cost in excess of £4,000 in one day! We recommend Pet Plan, the only specialist and most comprehensive insurance provider. However, we can deal with most pet insurance companies for you. In most cases, our fees must be paid at the time of treatment and recovered from the insurance company afterwards. We generally do not allow direct claims except in exceptional circumstances in order to protect animal welfare. This is because we are unable to take on the risk (of not being paid if the claim is disallowed) and the time delay whilst waiting for potentially hundreds of claims to be paid. However, we will complete your claim form for you promptly, attach any invoices and post the claim for you, all free of charge! Our turnaround time for this is usually under a week. Please hand in a completed claim form at the time of treatment if possible, in order to receive your money back quickly.

Lots of services are available through this very web site, allowing you to shop through our online pet shop, book appointments, ask our vets questions free of charge, take advantage of a host of great offers and discounts on products and services (you will be surprised how much you will save!) and purchase certain prescription medications at “internet pharmacy prices”. Complaints and Standards
We hope that you never have recourse to make a complaint about the standards of service received at Championvet.com. However, if you feel that there is something you are unhappy about, please direct your comments in the first instance to one of the staff at reception. They will do their best to help you. If you prefer you may ask to speak to the head nurse or the vet under whose care your pet is. If they are unable to resolve your issue, then you may request to speak to the practice principal. If you feel more comfortable to write to or email us, then please do so and your issue will be addressed promptly and courteously.
Ownership of X-Ray Images and Similar Records
The care given to your animal may involve making specific investigations, for example taking radiographs or performing ultrasound scans or laboratory tests. Even though we make a charge for carrying out these investigations and interpreting their results, ownership of the resulting “hard copy” record, for example both film and digital radiographs, computerised ultrasound images or original laboratory results remain with the practice. Faxed or emailed copies, with a summary of the relevant history, will be forwarded directly to another veterinary surgeon for a second opinion, following a direct request from that veterinary surgeon only. Original film radiographs may be sent directly to that veterinary surgeon for inspection but must be returned to Championvet.com after viewing and will remain legally within our possession.
Dispensing of repeat prescriptions is entirely at the discretion of your vet and we have strict guidelines on when an animal must be re-examined before a repeat prescription is dispensed, depending on the condition. Please telephone beforehand to order a prescription and we will inform you if your pet must be seen first. Please allow 24 hours before collection on all occasions.
Obtaining Prescriptions for Medicines to be Dispensed Elsewhere
You may obtain Prescription-Only Medicines, Category V (POM-V) from your veterinary surgeon OR ask for a prescription and obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgeon or pharmacy. Your veterinary surgeon may prescribe POM-Vs only for animals under his care. A prescription may not be appropriate if your animal is an in-patient or immediate treatment is required.
You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medicine that may be prescribed for your animal. The general policy of Championvet.com is to reassess animals at intervals depending on the clinical condition. This is entirely at the discretion of the veterinary surgeon treating your animal and will be marked on your pet’s records. The standard charge for re-examination is currently £27.79 inc. VAT.

Please note that a standard dispensing fee may be added to some drugs at the time of purchase. This is to cover the time and packaging involved in the dispensing process and is dependent on the type of drug. This fee is attached to the first tablet dispensed.
Consent for Operations and Procedures
If your pet requires an operation, anaesthetic, invasive procedure or, sadly, euthanasia, you will be asked to sign a consent form . This ensures that you understand the purpose and potential risks of the procedure and the cost implications. Please ask our staff to explain if there is anything you don’t understand.
Our Waiting (Not Too Long!) Room
We will ensure that you will be seen promptly for your appointment. Please notify the staff if you are in a particular hurry, for example if you have to collect kids from school. Whilst waiting please browse the information of the table and the pet products and accessories on display. If you have a longer wait (for example for an emergency procedure we have to perform at the time) please ask a member of staff to make you a cup of tea or coffee – even though you may feel like something stronger!
Specialist Pet Foods: Only Available From Your Veterinary Practice
We stock two brands of premium and prescription pet foods: Royal Canin and Hills. Both of these are the highest quality pet foods available and all our staff are fully trained to advise you on the correct choice for your pet. The larger bags may seem expensive, but please consult our price per day charts – due to the high quality of these foods, less is fed and typical feeding costs are between 20p and £1.00 per day.
We are also happy to order in for you any brand of pet food for the next day and our prices are competitive with leading Pet Superstores.
